What is Amtgard?

Amtgard is a global live-action fantasy role-playing (LARP) and boffer combat game. It’s a welcoming community for anyone interested in adventure, creativity, and fun—no experience required!

Boffer Combat

At its core, Amtgard features safe, foam-padded weapons ("boffers") for exciting battles and games. Swing swords, throw spell balls, and enjoy fast-paced, physical fun—safety is always a priority!

Live-Action Role-Playing

Create your own character with a unique name, backstory, and costume ("garb"). There’s no fixed storyline—bring your imagination and help shape the adventure!

Class-Based System

Choose a class (like Assassin, Warrior, or Wizard) and unlock new abilities as you play. Amtgard’s system is inspired by tabletop RPGs, but you’re the hero!

Community & Creativity

Amtgard is more than battles. Enjoy crafting, art, music, storytelling, and more. Many players make their own costumes and gear, and everyone is welcome to join in!

Accessibility & Inclusion

Amtgard welcomes people of all backgrounds, ages, and abilities. Newcomers are encouraged to visit a local park meeting—loaner equipment is usually available to help you get started.

Organization

Amtgard is organized into local groups ("parks" or "holdings") and larger "kingdoms." There are clear rules for safety, fairness, and fun, so everyone can enjoy the game together.

What to Expect

Amtgard events are generally welcoming and inclusive, with a strong sense of community and mutual support. People often happily share equipment, skills, and knowledge, especially with newcomers.

Whether you're primarily interested in combat, crafting, roleplaying, or just socializing in a welcoming community, each of these gatherings offers something unique to explore and enjoy.

Join us in person at the park for a fun, active afternoon of foam combat, roleplay, and camaraderie. Expect a welcoming group, plenty of action, and lots of opportunities to make new friends and try something new!
